Simplifying in the New Year
January 8, 2021
Most Januarys are filled with resolutions of reading more books, losing those post-holiday pounds, or planning your perfect vacation- but his year is slightly different. Chances are, you’ve already read all the books on your list. You’ve probably been diligently utilizing your home gym in between math lessons for your children’s distance learning at home. And planning for that perfect vacation sadly might need to wait just a little bit longer. So we’re offering some ideas to simplify your year and to remind you to take a moment to appreciate the little things. Here’s to a brighter 2021!
Something as simple as starting a gratitude journal can be a real mood-booster. Think about everything both large and small that you have to be grateful for and we bet that you’ll be able to come up with quite a few. Just the fact that during these times of limited physical connection, we’re able to see family and friends through our computer screens is a marvel. Grandparents laughing with their grandchildren, friends sharing recipes, families posting life hacks, and redecorating photos- all this made possible by technology. In simpler times these would all have had to come via written and mailed letters- which we must admit is still a fun way to show someone you’re thinking about them. Imagine the excitement you feel when you receive a hand-written correspondence or care package!
Resolutions don’t need to be grandiose, they just need to be meaningful to you. Make some time to get outside and enjoy the mild winter we’re having. We are so fortunate that our state is filled with parks, trails, ski hills, lakes, and countless sledding opportunities. A family trip to the woods can be incredibly therapeutic for everyone. It’s a great way to combat that shack happy feeling we’re all experiencing and the kids can burn off some energy, while making a lasting positive memory. We could use more of those lately!
You can still plan for a fun-filled spring and summer in your favorite outdoor spaces as well. Now is the time to think about that patio revamp, or that new outdoor summer kitchen… or maybe even that swimming pool you’ve always dreamed of! We understand the importance of having something to look forward to, and even though it feels like winters here go on and on, the days are getting longer. Planning to make the most of the coming months is a great way to keep your spirits up and it can also be a personally gratifying experience to have a hand in designing your outdoor dreamscape. What better way to pass the time while looking forward to better days to come?!
